We’ll remove the worn-through sole and glue on new rubber of your choice. We always decide on rand replacement based on our expert assessment, without consulting you beforehand — but only when it’s truly necessary. In other words, if the rand has no holes, isn’t damaged when the sole is removed, and we judge it will last at least as long as your new sole, we definitely won’t replace it. Rand replacement starts at a base rate of €10.
Why does the rand need replacing?
Even if there’s no visible hole in the rand, it might already be worn thin. If we resole the shoe without replacing it, the rand could wear through before the new sole does. Rubber, for example, can lose its flexibility over time and become very brittle, so despite our best efforts it may get damaged when we remove the old sole.
What Is a Toe Cap?
A toe cap is a patch used to repair worn-through toes on climbing shoes. We use it when the rest of the rand is still in good condition, but the toes would likely wear through before a new sole does. A toe-cap repair is less expensive, has less impact on the shape of the shoe, and causes less wear to the shoe being repaired. You can find out more about this lesser-known technique in our guide.
